#jazzlives.
As we ease into 2012, we mourn the loss of our beloved and outspoken music educator and staunch supporter of all things jazz, Dr John D. Bradley. He was a fixture in jazz and music education for decades, and he loved his students, his family and his music. We thank him for preaching the gospel of jazz for so many years, and we thank his wife, Winnette, for being by his side the whole time, taking the back seat to this music he loved so dearly.
We’re preparing for our exciting 2012 spring & summer concert and educational activities. This year, we’re offering five pre-season Candlelight Jazz concerts in March & April. We’ll post details on the CandlelightJazz tab when complete. (So, please, check back in a week or so)
The regular Sunday night jazz concerts begin on May 6 and continue through the month of August. They’ll also be listed as confirmed – usually by mid-March.
Of course, there are other things we’re involved in, like the “Taking Notes: Jazz & The American Story” project. This collaboration with the Richmond County Board of Education places U. S. History into a musical context. It’s very exciting to witness, and we’re eager to see what kinds of impact this project yields for the school system.
We’re planning to, again, host a jazz festival on Labor Day weekend, though our model needs tweaking. Truthfully, it needs an overhaul, and we’re eager to get some new ideas and fresh perspectives on how to make the experience a winner for all involved.
We’re excited about 2012. New music. New musicians. New venues. New opportunities. And as always, we’d love to hear from you. Drop us a line please. We’re at info@gardencityjazz.com.
